Product Director, Star Media Group
Core areas of expertise: Building and overhauling new products, product strategy and management, content and audience monetization, selecting technology vendors/partners, registration, membership, analytics and payment platforms, digital publishing trends
Kate manages a group with profit & loss responsibilities for The Toronto Star’s website (thestar.ca), Toronto.com, several more commercial verticals (Moneyville, Wheels, Healthzone etc.) and all related mobile-web, mobile and tablet applications.
Prior to her return to Canada in 2010, Kate ran Grow Digital, LLC, a small New York City-based consultancy practice for start-ups and media companies that focused on product strategy and digital monetization. The leap into consultancy – and the passion for digital businesses – was a natural step from her job as a General Manager of Macrovision, where she led a New York software division that built user registration and eCommerce technologies for large publishers such as ft.com (for the now well-known ‘metered model’), New York Times, News International, Channel 4 (UK), CBS, and Consumer Reports.
At Turner Broadcasting in Atlanta, Kate held digital platform and business advisor jobs during a period in which the company invested heavily in the interactive space.
